Medical Advancement has benefited us with higher survival rate of children. However, the cost of this technological advancement has also increased the incidence of disabled children with special needs in our society, for which we seem still unprepared. Besides, there are several congenital and acquired disorders which could make some children different from others. It is important to identify the special potential in a person, nurture it and provide an opportunity to contribute to the family and community.

Amrita is for such special children, whose optimum functioning needs special training.

According to National Sample Survey (NSS), 2% of our country’s population, i.e. about 208 lakh persons are categorized as disables. Mere 11% aged between 5 to 18 years are enrolled in special schools and mostly in urban areas. Thus it is quite evident that special education has yet to be acknowledged in India and especially in Kanpur. To get the trained teachers for the school in our town was a herculean task, we crossed this hurdle with great difficulty.

This is a special calling….!
